Subway Portraits

These small heads in porcelain and terra cotta ranging in size from 1 to 4 inches high were modeled while riding the NYC subway system of passengers on the train. The wet clay heads were carried home in empty egg cartons or in empty  paper cups, dried at home and then kiln fired. (from 2010 to present).  You’ll find more information on this project by clicking here.

Passing Glances

Passing Glances was an installation of ceramic portraits in Fort Tryon Park by artist Peter Bulow that were based on miniature clay portraits he modeled of passengers on the A train between 2008 and 2012. Of the close to 400 miniature portraits, 13 have been enlarged by the artist for this exhibition.

The exhibition was made possible in part with public funds from the Manhattan Community Arts Fund, supported by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council and administered by Lower Manhattan Cultural Council.
